Welcome to my favorite things for Vestibular Neuritis Recovery...

During my recovery from Vestibular Neuritis, I found the following items helpful in soothing and comforting ways.  Many of the stories behind these items are written about in my book Ceiling Wings.

The things that are most helpful to use when we are dealing with our head stuff, are items that connect us to one of our five senses.  This helps to relieve anxiety and PTSD symptoms by helping to regulate our nervous system, as well as to help us cope with the physical symptoms and sensations that Vestibular Neuritis causes.

Vestibular Neuritis favorite things for comfort, soothing, and healing

Foam Roller

I used this foam roller for tension in my upper back prior to experiencing Vestibular Neuritis. But then I discovered that it is also a wonderful tool to put under your feet while you are working at a desk. It's completely firm, due to the heavy duty plastic center, so it serves as a perfect companion to roll your foot/feet against as a method of self-soothing.  Intentionally moving one part of our body slowly, such as rolling, rocking, or swaying, can actually make us feel more grounded in our head when we are feeling our head symptoms the most. I still use this daily for my back as well as under my feet when I'm at my desk.

Vestibular Neuritis Healing and Recovery favorite things mad mattr

Mad Mattr

I used Mad Mattr on a daily basis during my Vestibular Neuritis recovery.  I put it in a rectangle container that could easily sit in my lap, and I had my hands in it several hours per day.  I found it to be so satisfying, calming, relaxing, grounding, and soothing when my head was bothering me so much.  I had it in my lap when I was working, as well as the first time I drove in my car (so that I could put my hand in it during stops at red lights).  It's a cross between Kinetic Sand and some sort of foamy dough.  It's kind of hard to explain, but it was like a best friend to me during my recovery process.

Vestibular Neuritis Vertigo Dizziness Recovery Healing Favorite Things Tangle Fidget Toy

Tangle Fidget Toy

I have been a fan of Tangle fidget toys for years, but used them especially often during my Vestibular Neuritis Recovery.  When we use our sense of touch to keep our hands or feet moving, it can help us to feel more steady in our heads.  This also helps to reduce anxiety and allows us to spend some energy through our hands when we are sensitive to other forms of movement.  I keep one of these in my purse, and have them all over my home.  I use them while I work, and also used them at red lights when I first began to drive after my diagnosis.  I highly recommend this small but mighty tool.
